“...If the [Afghan] women's rights movement is going to be successful, then it can't just be for the educated, elite women of Kabul," Ms Vorgetts said. "We have to bring along women at the end of the queue, those who don't have permission to leave their homes or go to school."
Nearly two years after the fall of the Taliban, Afghan women have seen little change in their status. Outside the capital, women are not allowed to walk outside alone, are forbidden from organizing politically and can even be bought, sold, or exchanged for another man's wife. More than 95 per cent are illiterate.
